Vimy Ridge

I had initially planned to post some of the memoirs of Wanda’s grandfather, who served in the Great War as a machine gunner and dispatch rider, and was present at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.  It’s hard to select a particular passage though since there are many interesting and thoughtful anecdotes.

For a superb summary of the battle and the Canadian achievement, see Beaverbrook’s post at The Torch.  And Mitchieville‘s terrific photos of the memorial and trench system are well worth the time and effort, too.
