A byword for “overrated”

How sad for the Rt. Hon. Paul Martin, 21st Prime Minister of Canada.  Once the esteemed helmsman of a flourishing G8 economy, now denigrated worldwide as a living example of the Peter Principle:

Till now, [new British PM Gordon] Brown’s “known unknowns” and “unknown knowns” have aroused suspicion that he might be like Canada’s Paul Martin, an over-promoted finance minister with little gift for the broader canvas.

— Editorial, “Brown is grey“.  The Times of India, 28 June 2007.

Ouch.

And the hits just keep on coming! update:  Damian Penny notes a similar comparison in The Spectator.
