Hollywood Hallowe’en

Brenda McNeilly (a.k.a. ghostofhalloweenspast) has collected a phenomenal series of Hallowe’en-themed promotional shots showcasing Hollywood’s up-and-coming talent of yesteryear.  A little late for Hallowe’en proper, I know, but too good to keep filed away until next year.

It’s Holly-ween!, originally uploaded by ghostofhalloweenspast.

Beautiful Witch, Peeping Moon, originally uploaded by ghostofhalloweenspast.

Be Afraid, Betty Grable…, originally uploaded by ghostofhalloweenspast.

Just a Country Girl, originally uploaded by ghostofhalloweenspast.

Lillian Wells Shadowplay, originally uploaded by ghostofhalloweenspast.

Viewing these photographs has halfway convinced me that the death of the vertically-integrated studio system in the late 1940s was something of a national tragedy.
